Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Pianotype is developed and run by Mykyta Tkachuk, an individual developer (“we”), who is responsible for your personal data. You can reach us at privacy@pianotype.com.
2. Data We Collect
- Account details such as email and display name.
- Usage information, including pages visited and actions taken.
- Device data such as IP address and browser type.
3. How We Use Data
- Operate and maintain our services.
- Improve the user experience and develop new features.
- Send important notifications related to your account.
4. Android Waitlist
If you join the Android waitlist on our website, we store your email address, the language of the page and the date. We use them only to email you once when Pianotype comes to Android, and then delete them. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by writing to privacy@pianotype.com: we will delete your address. The list is kept with our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and is not shared with anyone else.
5. Website Analytics
To see how people use pianotype.com and make it better, the website uses Amplitude, an analytics service of Amplitude, Inc. (USA), which processes the data on our behalf. It is not used for advertising.
- What is collected: the pages you visit, the links and buttons you click, which parts of a page you reach, the exercises you play on the page, how you arrived (the referring site and campaign tags in the link), your browser, device type and language, and an approximate location that Amplitude works out from your IP address. A random identifier is kept in your browser's local storage to tell your visits apart. About half of the visits are also recorded as session replays: what appears on the screen, scrolling and clicks, with typed text masked.
- When: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Monaco and San Marino, and wherever we cannot tell your country, only after you choose "Accept" in the banner; there our legal basis is your consent. Elsewhere analytics runs unless you decline; there our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used and improving it, and you can object at any time. A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser counts as declining. Analytics never runs for visitors from Russia. To decide whether to ask, your browser asks our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which country you are in; the answer stays in your browser for that visit.
- Your choice: "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page lets you accept or decline at any time. Declining stops the collection and deletes the identifier from your browser. To have data already collected deleted, write to privacy@pianotype.com.
- How long: your choice is kept in your browser for 12 months; the identifier until you decline or clear your browser's storage. Session replays are kept for one month, other analytics data while it helps us improve the website.
- Transfer: Amplitude processes the data in the United States. Amplitude, Inc. is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, with its UK Extension, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission and the UK and Swiss authorities recognize as protecting personal data adequately.
6. Website Language
When you open pianotype.com, the website checks which language your browser asks for (browsers send it with every request) and, if the website exists in that language, opens that version, for example pianotype.com/ru/. This is used only to choose the page's language at that moment and is not stored. Without any identifiers, we count how often the home page opened each language version and how often a saved choice was used.
If you pick a language with the language switch, the website remembers it in a cookie named pt_lang in that browser, so pianotype.com opens in that language next time. Apps such as Instagram have a browser of their own, which keeps its own choice. The cookie holds only the language code (for example "en"), no identifier, is not shared with anyone and expires after 12 months. To change it, pick another language; to remove it, clear your browser's cookies.
7. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal information. Data may be shared with trusted service providers under strict confidentiality agreements, such as our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and our analytics provider, Amplitude.
8. Your Rights
You can request access to your personal data, its correction, deletion, restriction of its processing or a copy of it in a portable form, object to its processing, and withdraw your consent at any time without affecting what was done before. Contact us at privacy@pianotype.com to exercise these rights. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any significant changes will be posted on this page.
